
Temple University Rome, established in 1966, provides students from a variety of disciplines the opportunity to study in Rome for an academic year, semester or summer. Over its more than 55-year history, Temple Rome has maintained a strong academic and cultural program that takes advantage of the splendid resources Rome and Italy have to offer, both historical and contemporary.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Language of Instruction
English, except for Italian language and literature courses.
Course Load
Temple Rome offers courses in a variety of academic disciplines, including GenEd courses and internships. Offerings vary by term and more courses are available during the semester. Typical course loads and credits by term:
- Semester: 4-5 courses (12-18 credits)
- Summer: 2 courses (6-8 credits)
*Non-Temple students should verify the minimum number of credit hours required by their home institutions.

ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility is limited to students who:
- Are at least 18 years old at the time of application
- Are enrolled as a full-time matriculated student at a U.S. or Canadian institution at the time of application as well as during the semester prior to studying abroad.
- Will have completed at least two (2) semesters of college-level study by the start of the program.
- Meet the minimum cumulative GPA requirement, on a 4.0 scale from all colleges/universities attended.
- General: 2.5
- For Rome internship participation: 3.0
- Remain in good academic standing from the time of application until the start of your term abroad; students on academic warning are not eligible to participate.
- Will have a passport with at least 6 months validity by the application deadline. View deadlines and validity requirements for your host country.
We welcome the participation of qualified students from all U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities.

Once accepted, we provide you with detailed pre-departure materials designed to guide you in preparing yourself for your time abroad. Pre-departure materials include:

Pre-Departure Orientation
After your acceptance, our staff hosts a mandatory pre-departure orientation for students. Non-Temple students participate virtually.

We encourage you to take advantage of our rolling admissions and apply to the program well before the deadline, as the program and/or housing demand/capacity can vary by term.
On-Site Orientation and Support
An on-site orientation takes place after you arrive in your host city and may include:
- Introductions to the faculty, staff, and resources of the program
- Facilities and neighborhood tour
- Cultural norms and expectations
- Review of health and safety matters and emergency procedures
- Cultural activities/excursions
- Immigration procedures (as applicable)
- Dorm/homestay orientation (as applicable)

Health and Safety
REQUIREMENTS FOR VASSAR STUDENTS
Vassar students must have completed one year of college-level Italian or the equivalent in order to apply. Students are expected to enroll in a corresponding language course at the appropriate level while studying with Temple Rome.
Vassar students may enroll in Studio Art courses and the appropriate Italian-language course while on this program. They may not take any courses outside of these subject areas.
