Announcement: U. of Manchester Summer Program - Vassar Students Invited to Apply

Vassar students are offered the opportunity to apply for this one week (non-credit) summer program.

The University of Manchester invites Vassar students to apply for the Humanities Summer School program taking place in July 2025. This one week (non-credit) summer program is designed exclusively for their four US Special Relationship Partners: Morehouse, Spelman, XULA, and Vassar.  This year, the program will grapple with the history of 19th Century Manchester, which was nicknamed ‘Cottonopolis’, and acted as the hub of the cotton industry with a market exchange, textile warehouses and banking establishing Manchester as one of the great industrial cities of the world.

The experience includes:

  • Academic sessions taught by leading experts
  • Opportunities to learn and apply research methodologies, which you can use in your undergraduate projects or dissertation
  • Study in the John Rylands Research Library with access to the Anti-Slavery Archives and the UK Pop Music Archives
  • Access to Manchester’s historic sites, vibrant cultures, music and food. Experience first-hand why the New York Times named the city as one of their ‘top places to go’ in 2024.

Note: This program's fee of £850 covers tuition, accommodation and scheduled social events. Students will also need to budget for living costs, such as food, travel and personal expenses. As this is a fee-based program, it is not eligible for Vassar funding/grants/fellowships.
